It all started with a stomach ache. I was rushed to A&E and after some tests, they sent me to a ward. The following morning, that’s when I heard the terrible news. “It’s bowel cancer!”
“Are you sure you’ve got the right patient?” I frantically asked the doctor, but to my surprise he was right. I had cancer. The sound of this word felt weighty inside of my mind.
However, despite the astonishment of the moment, that diagnosis didn’t break my spirit. On the contrary, it awakened my faith! I quickly remembered all the inspiring stories of how members of the Universal Church endured sickness and other difficulties with the help of their faith. So, I decided to rely on my faith as a complement to the medical treatment I would be receiving.
I had a surgery scheduled for March 2019. The countdown to this day was daunting, but I depended on the support that the Universal Church provided. I carried a 5-litre bottle of water to church, and asked my Pastor to pray with it. I would drink this water leading up to the day of my surgery, and this gave me confidence that everything would be okay.
I didn’t feel like I was fighting this battle on my own; the Pastors and advisers in the church were by my side. Then, the highly dreaded day arrived. I drank the water for the last time and I felt ready to go through with it. I had my surgery and on the same day, I was told that the operation was successful.
After 10 days, the lead surgeon called me to discuss the next steps of my treatment. He explained that the plan was 6 months of chemo. I couldn’t help but worry about the length of time that I’d be away from work. I needed a miracle!”
While Marie kept attending all the sessions, she also continued using her faith by taking part in the church services, helping as a volunteer, reading the Bible and praying. Soon she heard good news from the doctor: her condition improved, so her chemo period would be reduced to 3 months instead of 6.
“I was over the moon with joy! After only 3 months, I finally did my last session. My doctor told me that my treatment was successful and gave me the all-clear.
Today I am a healthy woman again and I couldn’t be happier! I am very thankful to the medical team, they were incredible, and above all God, as I am sure that He empowered me to overcome that tempestuous period of my life and come out as a winner.” Marie Morris
Keeping our health in check is very important for the function of our day-to-day life.
