Paris Hilton revealed she was sexually abused at age 16. The socialite told The New York Times that her childhood was stolen and that she went through frightening moments at the Provo Canyon School, a boarding school located in Utah, in the United States.
“I was abused at Provo Canyon School 20 years ago and I am heartbroken to see uncovered security footage of a child being thrown to the ground,” she wrote on Twitter.
“It was really scary, and it’s something I’ve really blocked out for a lot of years. But it’s coming back all the time now, and I think about it. And now, looking back as an adult, that was definitely sexual abuse.”
The socialite said that, at the time, she did not understand what was happening, as she was sleep deprived and heavily medicated: “I was forced to lie down on a padded table, spread my legs and undergo cervical exams. I cried while they held”.
She also stated that it is important to open up about the painful times she has been through so she can heal and help end the abuse. Furthermore, Paris said the experience recurred not only for her but for other survivors as well: “I was raped and I’m crying as I type this because no one, especially a child, should be sexually abused. My childhood was stolen from me and it kills me, this is still happening to other innocent children”.
Provo Canyon School was sued in 2021 for alleged sexual abuse and torture against Aaron Ross. The student was 13 years old when he was sent to boarding school and said a school official forced her to perform sexual acts under threat of starvation, as well as being locked up in solitary confinement for weeks.
