Nobody cares about me!

This is the thought that torments more and more people, from children and young people, to adults and the elderly, as no one escapes the pain that loneliness causes.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this new epidemic ended up becoming a public health issue, shortly after several investigations had not only associated loneliness with numerous diseases, but also as a risk factor for the increase in mortality worldwide. In fact, many people end up adopting unhealthy behaviors, such as excessive consumption of alcohol and tobacco, an unbalanced diet and lack of physical activity.

LONELINESS

Even surrounded by family and friends, many people feel alone and disconnected from the world around them. But worse than physical loneliness, which increases the risk of heart attacks, strokes, cancer and even dementia, spiritual loneliness can be considered even more harmful. This huge hole felt in the soul appears when human beings move away from God, representing the absence of the Holy Spirit. So how can we fill this void? Opening the door to the Lord Jesus and then we will never feel alone again. “Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” (Deuteronómio 31.6).

NUMBERS

*Social isolation affects 1 in 4 adults globally (WHO);
*Around 15% of young people in the world suffer from loneliness (WHO);
*33% increase in mortality among lonely people (2023 studies);
*The lack of social connections can lead to a 37% increase in the risk of developing Parkinson’s disease.
